Musicians from the world-renowned «Moscow Virtuosi» orchestra—devoted moms and dads eager for the all-round development and education of their children—have teamed up with scientists from various fields to create a unique series of educational programs that unite science and music. Artists and scientists enthusiastically bring vivid images and musical scenes to life on stage, ensuring an experience that children will never forget.

It may seem that musicians and scientists—physicists, biologists, chemists—have little in common and work in entirely separate worlds. But that’s not the case at all: the chamber musicians of the «Moscow Virtuosi», together with their scientist friends, have invented an entire musical laboratory—a cycle of children’s concerts where they explain and demonstrate the inner workings of music and show how closely it is intertwined with the sciences—physics, mathematics, and geography. Vivid visuals, fascinating stories, and even live scientific experiments on stage will captivate both children and adults, reminding everyone that, although music is deeply connected to science, it is always much more than just that, especially in the hands of one of the world’s best chamber orchestras.

At this «Music Laboratory» concert, we’ll explore how music and mathematics are intertwined. Can harmony truly be «tested with algebra»? What musical sounds in the Middle Ages could get someone excommunicated? How does the music we hear today differ from the music of five hundred years ago? And what connection do the ancient Greeks — the geometer Pythagoras and the philosopher Plato — have to music?
