Vladimir Spivakov dedicated a prayer to the memory of Anatoly Katz
Today, February 3, in Saratov on the site of the Opera and Ballet Theatre a concert of the academic chamber ensemble «Moscow Virtuosi» under the direction of People’s Artist of the USSR Vladimir Spivakov took place.
The concert was dedicated to the memory of the artistic director of the Saratov Philharmonic Anatoly Katts. As a sign of sorrow, the maestro played Tomazo Albinoni’s Prayer before the main programme of the concert. For this he himself took the violin in his hands. He only participated in the performance of the rest of the works as a conductor.
The concert took place with a full house […], The artists were given a warm welcome. Each work was greeted with applause, and in the finale the audience gave Spivakov and virtuosos standing ovations for several minutes.
The first section featured Alfred Schnittke’s Old Style Suite and Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No.[8]5 The Queen.
In the second section the musicians were joined by Ksenia Nesterenko, winner of the Big Opera show. The concert ended on a bravura note: virtuosos were the last to play the tango by Astor Piazzola on beads, and Spivakov dedicated it to women.
